Bee! I'm Expecting You!

Write this poem on a chart.  Tell your students that this is a friendly letter.  Ask them if they can tell who wrote it. Then introduce a friendly letter and show the parts of one.

Have a discussion as to why  the fly is writing the bee a letter. Rewrite the poem using the standard format of a friendly letter.

Bee! I'm expecting you!
Was saying Yesterday
To Somebody you know
That you were due—
The Frogs got Home last Week—
Are settled, and at work—
Birds, mostly back—
The Clover warm and thick—
You'll get my Letter by
The seventeenth; Reply
Or better, be with me—
Yours, Fly.
